I rarely hand out 5-stars to works of fiction unless there is something that really makes it stand out. Well, Defending Jacob was one of those stories that grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. While set around the courtroom drama of a murder trial, William Landay really built a fantastic story about life relationships. Father and son. Husband and wife. Interactions with co-workers and friends.
I’m assuming most of us have experienced changes in our own relationships caused by uncontrollable circumstances or tremendous life events. Landay grabs those emotions and allows it to play out between the pages. There is a lot of energy surrounding the intertwining stories of the main and supporting characters that evokes strong feelings of support or distaste for them.
Excellent pacing with an ending that knocked my socks off. Well done and recommended for mature teens and above. Find Defending Jacob at Amazon.
