Coming soon to a theater near you, this Andy Weir novel blends scientific ingenuity with human survival and does it well. The technical and science aspect may not be your cup of tea but I found this to be one of the most enjoyable fiction stories I’ve read.
Weir has obviously researched his material and made travelling and landing on Mars, surviving a disaster scenario, and all the science behind it all, realistic and fun. The sarcasm and quick wit of protagonist Mark Watney had me laughing out loud and for a guy stuck on Mars, the humor was a great coping mechanism for the situation. It wasn’t obtrusive or forced but embedded within the nature of the character.
The author jettisons the standard action-hero cliche’s and replaces them with the rigorous standards and though process and engineer/scientist would apply given the situation. This story was amazing and really entertaining. My only “wish” was an expansion on the ending which seemed a bit hurried.
